Please appraise motionpicture.org

I bought this domain a couple years ago and am wondering if it is worth what I paid. :)

It gets some small type-in traffic. Probably from people looking for mpaa.org

I bought this domain in 1999 and am wondering if it is worth what I paid.

That all depends on what you paid!

I'm not too fond of .orgs since they are meant for non-profit organizations - this makiing them tough to resell. However motionpicture.org is a very good one.

Movie is used more often but in Hollywood they like the classier sound of motion picture. I would think there would be some organization out there that would like that name but I couldn't put a price on it. There are some guys with .org experience on here who will hopefully help you out.

This a prized catch.Could fetch u a large amount.Don't worry just
because its an org.In this case being .org could be more valuable.
Or you can build a good website,I'm sure u"ll get lots of traffic
and then could fetch u a very decent sum.Good luck.

I'll be happy to sell you classicmotionpictures.com if you like:D

The .org is definately the wrong TLD in my opinion for this domain. The .org is solely moving toward to only be used for NPOs, Interest Groups, and other form of associations. Too bad, because I like the name.

Good luck!

The motion picture industry however seems to embrace .org..

Yahoo and Google results for 'motion picture' are dominated by .org

- Motion Picture Association (mpaa.org)
- Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (oscars.org)
- Society of Motion Picture Television Engineers (smpte.org)
- Motion Picture Sound Editors (mpse.org)
- Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (amptp.org)
- Motion Picture & Television Fund (mptvfund.org)
- Society of Motion Picture Art Directors (artdirectors.org)

And other regional groups,

- Florida Motion Picture And Television Association (fmpta.org)
- Alberta Motion Pictures Industries Association (ampia.org)
etc...

Sorry RJ...as a reseller I think you overpaid for that domain.

You probably didn't overpay based on domain prices in 1999 - but of cvourse things have changed dramatically today. I would find a directory to hollywood organizations of producers, directors, actors etc and contact them offering the name. You still might find a buyer and recoup your investment. $1,000 would be nothing to one of these groups - ifyou could find an interest party. It is still a powerful name for the Holllywood crowd.
