Altoughthe answer is (almost) obvious, I would like to have a confirmation.
There is a trademark for name in singular, eg. yvase.com.
What is my chance to defend yvases.com?

Not related, but I registered a name after some type-ins research,
not knowing about existing company.

I was told in my Speedy LInks thread that the site www.halms.com infringed the rights of the trade mark holder HALM. I suppose that this makes sense as the plural is often used to describe a company, for example TESCO the supermarket chain is often referred to as TESCOs.

The other interesting question is what hapens if there are multiple trademark holders of the base name. It could be argued that the plural is a collective description of all of them and is thus independent of any one.

Options, it very much depends on how you use the domain. If you register Amazons.com and use it to sell books, I can promise you that the fact that your domain is plural won't help you out one bit. But if you use Amazons.com to tell historical information about the Amazons, the female tribe of warriors that lived on the Kazakhstan border, you would be much safer.

Yeah, I know.
This is a bit more clear and almost lost for me as the name is not
generic at all.
I registered xpaintballs.com thinking it had to do something with
some video game stuff, I even didn't know what paint balls were.
It turned out that majority of visitors were looking for xpaintball.com, a respectable company with several trademarks.

My site is undeveloped, so I tried to affiliate with "singular" for
type-ins. The request is pending for four days, so I guess C&D
letter is under way.

yes, approaching the company with the singular domain is inviting trouble. If they challenged you to a WIPO suit, you would probably lose. However, its possible they still might be interested in leasing the domain or something like that. The fact that you havent heard from them in 4 days mean anything, at this time of year.

Ummm ... how well would you sleep if you owned "Microsofts.com"?? Though it may not be the legal opinion you seek, I think your answer to the question may provide a barometer for future registrations. However, now I'll defer to the experts! :) Good Luck.

PS. I ain't no lawyer.
