Have just joined NW and think I get the gist, but:

Have put a watch on a name and NW says:
"Domain Name Current Bid __ Status Expiration Date (remove) 351.00 Not Highest Bidder (place bid) 31-DEC-69"

Expiration date 69???

whois says:
Registrar: 1 DOMAIN NAMES INTERNATIONAL, INC. D/B/A 1DNI.COM
Nameservers: NS1.ULTSEARCH.COM, NS2.ULTSEARCH.COM
Updated: 2003-Jan-14

What does this mean?
I know I am not the highest bidder.
I get that the highest bid is $351
but what's with the expiration date and the whois info?

I have a couple of those in my list at NW, too. I just assumed it is a programming glitch and go by the actual registry info.

Looks like UltSearch got the domain with snapnames. As for the registration date, no clue. I've seen names before with old dates like that. When "Spaced.com" was first registered, the date said 1969, but its changed now.

NW still shows a bid on the name.
Would this still be the case if Ultsearch or anyone else got it?

It seems that the Dec 31/1969 date only shows up on names in the watch list. Any of these same names that you are high bidder on will show the right date on your purchase list. Wierd

So how can I actually find out the true expiry date?
I have tried a few different whois services and all I get is:

31 dec 69 is not a glitch. That generally shows that a name is already renewed.
