Just got this news flash today from SnapNames.

On January 25, 2003, central registry supervision of domain names ending in ORG will be transferred from VeriSign Global Registry to Public Interest Registry (PIR). We have been advised that PIR is considering changes to the procedures that now govern deletions of expired ORG domain names and, accordingly, will suspend deletions of expired ORG names for a period of two to three months.

Your subscription records indicate that you have a currently active SnapBack® subscription in place for an ORG domain name and, further, that the subscription is due to expire within the period of PIR's deletion moratorium.

Accordingly, SnapNames has extended, free of charge, your affected SnapBack subscription

Looks like the price of .orgs are going to be dropping. Soon to be useless. Verisign might bring out another extension to replace it and maintain a good monopoly.

Actually just the opposite. The rule of supply and demand governs all business. If the supply of drops is going to be shut off, buyers will have to pay more for premium names names held by domain dealers - there will be no other source. I know I will be asking more for my good .orgs when I can no longer replace them from the drop pool.

I'll start another thread to discuss the .org issue as it is one a lot of people will want to discuss. I will credit RealNames for bringing it up.

I agree guys. That statement by 'domainsaremygame' is just wrong and backwards.

Quality .ORG's are already strong - and if anything - this will only make them stronger!
