I don't know IPB, but I know mysql and php.

If the password in this config file was originally encrypted, then chances are it's getting decoded somewhere in the script before being used to connect to mysql. When you created the user in mysql, you should have used the decrypted password.

From a command line on your box, try:
mysql -u rock_ivbd2 -p rockmf_ivbd2

Then enter your real password when prompted.

If that doesn't work, then it's not an issue with IPB or php, you need to get the right username, password, or db name.

Email me if this doesn't help.

can you explain the 'command line on your box' part again...

It makes sense, this is the 2nd time it happened to me and each time I am sure I had the right username, password and db...so if you can explain how I go about doing this, it should work.

thanks

ok, I changed which user was connected to the database and got this: http://www.rockmusicforum.com/rock/

an even longer error...

The basic idea is this....
I sold my forum and need to transfer the message board to the buyer's hosting account, but I cant seem to do it. I have a copy of all the message board files and the database, but I cant find I way to match them up together.

If someone who knows how to switch message board between hosts can do it for me easily, I would be willing to pay them a little, or donate some DNF$, or maybe they can just give me a couple hints because I should be able to do this myself.

Thanks again

basically, what I am trying to ask is, when you change hosts, how do you get the message board running with the new host...

I figured I could just install a new InvisionBoard on the new server, overwrite the SQL with that from the old forum, install the skin and I would be done...but I got an error so I tried doing it this long way...

which way is easiest to do...are there any other ways to upgrade forums?
