What do you think it's worth?

Purchased for $40k in April, '99. Had plans to develop, but investors fell though. Looking to sell, but also want to get some opinions from the experts. Thanks.

you bought this name at the height of the dot-com bubble and are now trying to sell it at the low point. in my opinion you have no hope of getting 40k or more, and a more likely figure of 9-15k. Official.com is a nice name, but it is actually *too* generic to bring up big bucks. Also, its traffic is quite low.

Yeah, no doubt I bought it when the market was "high"...

At the time, $40k was a GREAT deal. I had offers over $100k for the name back then, after I bought it. But I wasn't looking to sell it at the time.

No doubt, conditions suck now and webmasters want traffic. The name doesn't get big traffic, so a buyer would need to be someone looking for a generic name to market. Names of this magnitude should be fairly rare still, so I would think it could easily attract at least $20k, even on eBay. That's my opinion though. I appreciate your feedback!!

It is offical. The domain bubble burst is benind us. Things should look up soon. I know it is tough to swim against the tide but that is the way to make profit. Sell when eveyone is buying and buy when everyone is selling. You bought when everyone was buying and paid big amount for it. Now you want to sell when the recovery has just started. Wait 1-2 years. You may recover your money or not lose as much as you will lose by selling now. And yes, register this name at sedo.us

It's quite hard to imagine who would pay the really big money you're looking for - as has already been stated, it is the extreme "genericness" of the name that hurts it since while it's easy to remember, it doesn't map to any particular use or industry in the minds of anyone hearing it.

"What does Official.com make you think of?"
- Um, not sure really... something to do with government?

"What does Peaches.com make you think of?"
- The fruit, of course
