So I was a day late on this potential new digital format for music, and most of the good names had been snapped up the day before. Including mt9.org!

I wonder what would happen to MP3.com if this happen...

They'd spend the $xx,xxx to buy mt9.com from the owner before mt9 actually became a replacement.

Nice, TY for the news, just snagged a couple of good domains if this becomes true. :)

Yes, thanks. I just grabbed a speculative three :D

Wow, MT9.name was available 2 minutes ago.

It isn't now.. ;)

Sometimes its better to keep new developments under wraps :)

Does anyone with a heart-beat to the industry or a feel for this type of thing believe this has the legs to run with it and overtake MP3 in the near future? I'm curious on whether this is just another buzz blizt for something that will die a slow death in 6 months or if this is the real deal.

Only time will really tell, but considering the potential returns, it can definitely be worth the very small investment required for a domain registration.

(sorry, that wasn't supposed to be a PM, Irish.)

I agree. $40 for 5 domains (4 .com and 1 .name). They're already getting some traffic, let's hope they get some revenue.

what ever happened to mp4? that was the old mp3 takeover hype :)

MP4 is around, but it's associated with video files.

thanks for the info just registered mt9format.com

I'm going to start a private Google groups where ideas can be shared (aka speculation). I don't know if anybody is interested, but if you are, drop me a PM. The idea is that everybody who joins will share, not only lurk & leech ideas. If you can't do that, then don't join. ;)

I'm guessing some people have done well with the MP4 names, not quite the success of MP3 obviously, but I still it advertised a lot in some places.

I think a lot of people assume mp4 is just a more advanced mp3 because of the number.

I may be crazy but I just reg'd a few. We'll see what happens with it.
