That's a lot of lost fees for CIRA, etc.

I tend to see this the other way round: CIRA may lose about $330,000 - 440,000 (depending on how many names are registered before/after 01 February 2002) but the total loss of registrants collectively could well be ONE MILLION PLUS.

I don't have detailed stats of the registrars' market share, but Webnames.ca which charges $50 most of the time (except during promotions) is probably getting the biggest slice of the pie starting from the very beginning. And we don't have Domainsatcost.ca's $19.99 before February this year when most registrars charged $30 or so. So when 22,000 dot-ca's are not renewed, this simply means that some $500,000 - $1,000,000's worth of investment are lost! What a pity! It would be interesting (and useful for other investors) to know how many registrants are involved and the number of dot-ca each has registered.

Thats good to know Gordon. Have you had much success with registering expired .ca domains?.

These are mine among others. I think the list is still fairly current although I might have dropped a couple of these. But all have been gained in the drops.

>kidkool: I wanted dates.ca but someone beat me to it

dates.ca is only SUSPENDED!

The truth is: there are quite a number of snap services for dot-ca and none of them has any proven success rate as snapnames.com for CNO.

>gmartfin: And just so you know http://DropWizard.com accepts .ca deletions for the canadian drops.

May I ask which CIRA-certified registrar(s) are you using to maximize your chance of picking up drops?

No offence, but there are still tons of decent dot-ca names available for registration. I wonder if it's a good idea to snap second-rate drops.

Does snapnames go after .CA domains too?.. I didn't think they did that.

There is nothing second rate about the current drop going on. It's the anniversary of the original opening of the registry and there are thousands of names expiring. Lots of good stuff.

If you're interested in the canadian market of course.
