Overprice/Overvalued Aprraisals???

Is it just me or are most of the appraisals by the top dogs of the industry overpriced? Take for instance Afternic's appraisal system. I think most of the names appraised their are highly beyond current market value and their perfect market value I often times find to be ridiculous.

What do you guys think and why is it like that?

I wasn't trying make like a negative comment on the whole thing... I was just wondering why this is the case.... I'm still a newbie in the whole domain game... any advice, tips, or knowledge I can gain (however simple it may seem) I totally welcome Just wanted to know.

basically everyone that is involved in the domain name game has high hopes and speculates the value of dmains to increase tenfold within the next 5 years (much like real estate)...hence, overpriced quotes and appraisals

Selling those names at the appraised price is another matter. I think the industry is driven too much by dreamers. It's only when people go for months without a decent $x,xxxx sale that they forced to start their firesales.

For developers, a nice name is a good to have, but not a must have. What will pull traffic in the mid-long term, is in the development. Mindless "type-in" traffic are a thing of the euphoric past.

Posts like "if I had the money I would buy that name for sure" or "It's worth $__" are easier to make than it is to actually make/pay for acquisitions.

No doubt development (and branding) will bring in the best and most targeted traffic, but for a lot of names, "type-ins" are a very real thing.

You don't think people new to the internet don't type in "porn.com" when looking for porn?
