As a very expirienced dealer with over 30,000 domains, my feeling is that this extension will be worth money in 12 months from now. Right now I agree that it is impossible to price anything that you have registered above reg fee because there is so much available but governor.in could well be worth $500 and jat.in $250/$300 within 6 months. I think the names which are in Hindi will be worth some money in India.And also the generic names like governor and tution etc,and also chiefminister.in good for Indian govt.

I agree that there is currently no reseller market - but future potential/value value should be considered. The fact that 28,000 were registred in the first hour suggests that this will go big. .in is also a nice short way of "IN ternet" - My prediction, will go as big as the .co.uk and .de markets within 18 months and the Germans will love this extension. Any generics in any language will sell well above reg fee

One thing you'll find with the hindi language. There are a lot of different meanings to words. Yes, gutka means "tobacco", but from this news story it appears you bought "chewingtobacco.in"

You mkake some interesting points but the group that don't speak english are the ones that are not online. Most educaterd people do speak english. Forget about that .in represents a nation, the fact is, it is extremely easy to remember and will be seen everywhere on the net 6 months from now (many with genuine sites) will ensure that it becomes accepted worldwide. Companies abroad which have any business interest in India will need to get the extension. I don't need others to make claims, I think for myself. I would definately not recommend that anyone registers the .in extension - the more for me the better - 500 and counting ....

Now that is one helluva gamble... I do hope it pays off for you. One thing for sure if you don't take the big risks from time to time in business you'll never get anywhere.

Thanks Izopod. I don't really see it as a gamble to be honest. We are talking all generics ie. diy.in entrepreneur.in motherboard.in latina.in , that kind of thing. I'm sure I'll recover my money somehow even if I have to develop them all

We started on 16th February with a couple Asian TLDs, .in make about 70% of them all. Give India about 12 month and the best Domains are taken, and additionally 12 month to let the prices growing. Then we will start earning money.
