Site gets over 300 uniques a day and spidered daily by the big three engines.

Site is currently set up as an online store selling games and software provided by a dropshipper in the states, payment methods not set up to take orders. Have all images to update products just haven't got around to finishing it off.

The domain itself was acquired in November 2004. It is the domain name that belonged to France Telecom's gaming division called , obviously Wanadoo Edition. They sold their games division and simply let the domain name with all the traffic expire. You can do a search and read about it yourself. There are numerous articles detailing the sale and Wanadoo-Edition

Google has 225 backlinks registered in its databse but the true linking is a lot more.

If you run a check on seochat for the furture page rank of a site you can see that some datacenters are reporting this site as a PR7....... so expect the rank to be somewht higher than the curretn pr5.

And last problem, French companies such as France Telecom are famous for suing people trying to cybersquat their trademarks.

The fact that you use a website with the name wanadoo in the dn is a serious infringement of the French law. But you don't risk a lot if you are not a French citizen (cf the main French State-TV channels: france2.com and france3.com). In case of lawsuits, most probably, you'll eventually have your dn confiscated, but there's little change than anybody can oblige to pay damages

The deciding people will not let you use the wanadoo name, that's for sure. But first, they have to know that you exist and the risk is limited because those people live in "another planet", and as surprising as it might be, their knowledge and use of the internet is limited.

I bid because the potentiel of this website is high in terms of trafic and revenues.

The value of the PR is the sum of the value of the links pointing to your website. With the current content, you cannot expect more links pointing to your website (except the one from this thread:wink: ) but the current links will progressively disappear as webmasters will notice that your website is not what they wanted to link to.

okay, you make some valid points.

However in terms of trademarks i would check to see if the trademark using wanadoo is worldwide in every country. An argument exists that if it doesn't then one can carry out business in that country where the trademark has no jurisdiction as you are not infringing their trademark...... i gues you would have to prove that you are only doing business in that country.. diffcult with a website and subsequently a domain name

The site doesn't have a pagerank of 7 - the pagerank currently showing is the one for www.gamefags.com. It is the usual "pagerank hijack"... Just try to look up the domain in google:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=www.wanadoo-edition.com&btnG=Search

So you can't rely on the pagerank.

But if you check the domain in Yahoo it will show a lot of links, so the domain probably still has some link popularity. If it has been a pagerank 5 previously, then that is probably the correct pagerank.

Well gamefaqs shows pr7 for me.

When you domain was looked up in Google yesterday it was showing the gamefaqs.com url, so there pagerank was definitely from gamefaqs and NOT the real one. But of course I can't know what you real pagerank is now - not before the next update...

I wasn't directly claming that you hijacked the pagerank, but on of the terms for it, is "pagerank hijack".

You, wrote that it was a pagerank 5, so that is probably what it is, right...?

I can see that it depends on which google datacenter you're on, if you see Wanadoo-Edition.com as gamefaqs.com, or as itself.

the pr is 5, you can check it with any pagerank checker. And my toolbar displays 5 also (there might be a bug, a student of mine used to have a pr of 8 a few months ago for his personal webpage (in French): http://www.webmaster-hub.com/index.php?showtopic=13084
Be assured that the pr is 5 and it can ONLY go down.
The value of this domain name resides in its high number of incoming backlinks. But those backlinks will soon (partially) disappear and one must also consider the wanadoo trademark issue. The more you wait, the lower the value. If you come back in six month, it will be much harder to sell it. But I'm sure you know all that.
