Question: Is there a "PENDING TRANSFER" status with .com?

FYI, Didn't see a "PENDING TRANSFER" status at any stage during the transfer.

AFAIK: yes.
It could take a while for a transfer to be initiated.

Do you mean in the whois? I think it all depends on the registrar if they update the status to "pending transfer", some do it right away, some don't do it at all.
