Happy New Year!!

I like Gishu because it uses Japanese sounds. My translation came up with a telephone switchboard operator, if this is true, there are 100s of call centers on Okinawa alone and could be onto something. I'd refer to my dictionary to confirm, but don't want to wake up my baby in the next room (4 AM). Easier asking the wife when she wakes up what the meaning is. As of now I can say that it is definitely a first name, though can't say how common.

It is also a village with a population of 211 people in the war torn country of Iran.

It also depends on how you pronounce it too...

PM me to remind me to ask if it's native Japanese and what it means if you want further details on its origin or how it can be used in a sentence.
