OK I have all of mt domaines (about 30+) with namecheap. i like them enough and done seem to need anything else.

The problem is that my wife a while back ago without my knowing had a domain registered with register.com I have renewed it in the past and the website is not currently active. It is due to expire within 2 months. We are successfull in what we do but havent needed the internet yet I have many related domaines and websited ready for when we launch on the internet.

I like having all of my domains at one place. It makes it easy to manage.

My problem is that the one domain at register. com is kinda important. Its not vital but definatly impotant. She is an artist and its her name .com

I want to let it drop because it seems that register.com charges 200.00 for a transfer that seeems outragous.

Should I just let it expire and hand reg it? Can I write reg.com and tell them its a copyrightedname and its in violation and needs to be deleted. (acting like I am not the owner of the copywright. ) can I just delete the name and pick it up?

Well there has to be something to do besides pay 200.00 I will If I have to.

I am conserned that they will never let it drop and hound me for years to renew it at some higher cost. we have had the domaine for about 4 years so they know someone likes it.


Help me pry it from them and get it back into my hands.

The only cost to transfer away from register.com will be for one year's renewal at whomever you wish to transfer to. Is the name a .com?

Yes it is a .com

But what about what it says on this page am I reading it wrong?

You are not transferring ownership, you are transferring out. Simply initiate a transfer at Namecheap and wait for the ensuing emails. Make sure that you have access to the email addresses listed at Register and at Namecheap. Follow the directions and the name will be transferred in a matter of weeks (probably less).

And make sure you get it done with at least a month left in your registration as some registars put time limits on transfer where you can not transfer domains to another registar if there is certain time left to the expiry date.

They're seriously charging $200 for registrant changes? Holy cow. I guess that's how they stick it to people that don't know ways around it. I recall NameBargain (their subsidiary) had a $35 charge and paper forms to fill out to do a registrant change (obviously not registrar change). Don't know if it's changed, but I got all of my domains out of there as fast as possible.
