Not so. There is nothing forcing the registrar to drop it. And if it goes beyond 45 days in registrar hold it's more than likely they won't drop it.
It'll be interesting to see what the registrars do with the new system but I suspect many will continue to warehouse names rather than release them to verisign to extort $$$$ from the clients.

So what happens if they (the registration company) hold on to it? I assume they get charged $6.00 by Verisign right? If they do so, isn't it against ICANN policies to hold on (renew) a name that is not legitimately registered by a customer? I'm sure a lot of hanky panky goes on with the high profile names.
