Hi Thunder,

Registrar lock means that the domain is “locked,” and thus domain information cannot be altered and the domain cannot be transferred.

The main reason for registrar lock is to keep people from ripping off your domain!

Registrar hold occurs AFTER the domain has expired, and is maintained for up to 45 days. You can still RENEW the domain during this period, but if you fail to do so, it will go in to redemption. (You can still get your name back when it is in redemption, but it will cost a lot more that a renewal.)

At the very least, REGISTRAR-LOCK prevents a domain name registration from
being transferred from its current registrar to another. What else it prevents
is up to the current registrar. (i.e. prevent registrant changes, DNS, etc.)

Another reason for REGISTRAR-HOLD is if the registrar suspended the domain
name due to breach of contract. (i.e. fraud, spamming, invalid WHOIS, etc.)
