I noticed it's very hard getting a sale on dnf lately, maybe because of the holidays. The only thing selling is 3 character domains and anything under $10, lol...

Yep, also with regard to website sales too. Has been the whole year tbh. Really hope new members with cash join in 2008, lol.

I think the problem is the quality of names. This has become very apparent the past 18 months or so. Also, people are getting tired of buying domains that are no better than lottery tickets in most cases.

on DNF within past few months I have sold:

nnn info
lll info
lln com
a dn related com

I also bought in last month:

llll com
llll com

in contrast, I have seen a rise in sales of lll com, particularly by tm3500, dnp, bking and others.
although the "quality" of them, can be determined by the "availability" of the them on the market...imo

many domainers are also fishing the after/auction markets, in record numbers.

preferring to spend their $ in these places, with hopes of grabbing the higher quality names.
they are saving cash for places like the "t-r-a-f-f-i-c", the "sedo/mobi/greatdomains" auctions, moniker etc...

every now and then, a quality name will come up for sale here.
if it's priced right and the right buyer is online at the time, it will sell fast.

however, the "quality" argument is in the "eye" of the buyer!

I'm buying LLL if you need Xmas money :D

You would not imagine the buying and selling that occurs "backstage". Just this week alone I spent $5k buying domains on DNF and sold about $3k worth of domains. The truth is, there is a lot of clutter in the threads and the early bird catches the worm :D

IMO the main reason for the sales slowdown at the forums this year is the fact there are so few product names (almost any quality but real product) or popular service names offered for sale, especially in .com

It seems like everyone is trying to sell names such as flyswapppers.biz bubblegummachine.org JKXZ.com and Z3K.net etc. All offered with little or no traffic and stats to make it even less attractive.

The rare times an even moderately good name which is also low priced is posted here or even on ebay it seems to sell very quickly. The trouble is I am always too slow or not online so by the time I see them they are already gone.

P.S. An example of this is:

I agree with trader, there are good deals, but i got other things to do :)

sounds something like a domain stagflation

It's been in decline for several years. With the auctions and as others have said people throwing money away on xzuj.com's. Yes it's registered. Just a bit of advice to anyone starting out. If the name hasn't been registered in 20+ years then I wouldn't waste my money. The registrars are getting rich along with their shareholders. Aftermarket resellers who buy names like above are going for broke.

I have also noticed a decline in sales on the forum. I don't think there is a decline in quality of names though. Lately I have had few sales but also receiving more lowball offers.

I notice people are more willing to spend all their money on backorders than from resellers. Lately the bidding on backorders has been rising for even bad domains.

And thats where the problem comes in. The registries aren't putting the money back into the industry. It's going to it's shareholders. The money is flowing in one direction. Out.

I've been buying a few here and there, and selling a couple here and there, on DNF. Mostly via PM and welcomed inquiries.

Selling for the last month or so has been picking up on Sedo. And I have actively been buying on Sedo plus backorder.

As for DNF sales...some folks are way off on their expectations. Irregardless whether we are talking a reseller price or end user price, I consider myself both.

I honestly feel some people need a reality check.

That's I dont understand as well. I have domains forsale here for low XX and let it expires because of no intested party. I found out it was picked up at high XXX.

I must agree that sales here in DNF is somewhat declining continously. I know some will disagree, not going to argue with it. This is based on my sales record for years. Very minimal sales here, though I have success with other forum and direct retail.

Unquestionably with you will find are MANY MANY more domainers lurking the drop lists than the total sum of members here.

I have been buying domain names for years but my membership here is perhaps a year old.

You will have a much larger audience, and global audience, on the auction sites and drop lines than you will find here.

Also, there is too much outright "baiting" on this forum. Why in the hell start a domain out at offers from one dollar, say no bin, then let people bid, then set a crazy damn BIN?

Just look at this forum. Too many games and I don't have time to play games.

You have perpetual sales or offer threads that are never a completed sale. When I am ready to buy, I am ready to buy. I am not going to waste my time and wait for someone to answer a PM or even respond to an offer on the the thread two weeks later.

Plus, I would rather my business be my business between me and the seller or buyer. I do not like posting on a thread an offer just for the self gratification of the person listing to see how much interest he/she can get in the line of offers. Again, I am not going to be used as bait.

To me, it essentially boils down to someone having no idea or clue as to what they have and how much it is worth. They want the members to help dictate a price (which is not that BAD of an idea) but why start out with taking offers at $1.00 then set a BIN of $95,000.00.

Like I said, I think some need a reality check.

There are some buyers and sellers here that I greatly respect and don't play games or bullshit around. To me these are the real domainers and the true professionals who know not to waste the time of others and don't want their time wasted.

I think this is why you are seeing so many backorders and highly contested backorder auctions.

Here it is, who wants it, how much are you willing to pay, GO FOR IT!...rather than the 4 or 5 weeks self bumps "looking for more".

Hell, we're all looking for more.

This forum actually use to be a great place to buy and sell. When it comes to what Doc Com is referring to I think it has to do more with whats happening with the reseller market. The sellers "have to" get every dollar they can out of every sell because theres not a lot of selling going on. In most cases they probably already have too much into the name as it is. The profit margins are slimming so there again they need to make a profit or even get what they have into it. The "other auction lines" are over burdened with millions of names so the likelihood of you selling your 1 in those daily increasing millions is also slimming.

Have a look around a bit more. You'll notice more and more people taking losses on names. Almost seems as though domains are following the real estate market. Over inflated prices and slumping sales leading to forced sales and foreclosures.

People love auctions and when ego's get involved lookout!!

if i had not saw that name on nj above, i would have let it drop.
as i think many domainers are "purging" their inventory of non-productive names trying to slim down their portfolios

some of those "dropped" names look attractive in the aftermarket...and the cycle continues

But that thread was rare as he had too many seriously under-priced which is why he sold a number of them fast, i.e. cabinets.net SOLD carpetcleaningservice.com SOLD shoppingcomparison.com SOLD

I was too late to grab the bargains.

Cabinets.net was priced at $4,500 so how was that underpriced?
