really a VERY good sale ($9,000) that has mostly gone overlooked at sedo because of net.net, freecellphones.com and others.

9 charachters, 2 words, mostly just a very brandable domain - much like the majority here at dnf, seems to have been owned by compusoft... really couldn't find developed archive pages.

obviously i think the seller made out (very well), what do you all think?

I'm obviously wrong, I'm just thinking of Fox television. What would searchfox.com be used for otherwis? Is it a simple search domain?

FYI: There's a VERY famous Chinese search engine/portal called Sohu (sohu.com), which literally means "search fox".

I have thought so, but I think there is nothing to do with sohu.com , right? :-O

Firstly, Fox TV doesnt not own the right to the word Fox. They are just a US TV network...

Secondly, $9000 is a ridiculous price for that domain, regardless of its "brand" or hidden Chinese meanings... oh well, if someone is willing to pay that much, than good luck to them ;)

There are a number of Chinese sites that mention Sohu and SearchFox.com on the same page. I can't read the rest, but it seems the meaning isn't lost over there...

I could maybe see someone paying $9,000 for this for that reason. Otherwise the only reason I could think the name would sell for that much would copious amounts of crack or other brain-destroying drugs. Without pre-existing branding the name stinks and is no better than any random two word pair someone could come up with at random.

Maybe it's related to the great fame that the browser Firefox has acquired.
