I just backordered realestatedevelopers.com that was registered through Network Solutions, but snapnames didn't get it. I thought they had an exclusive partnership....

You have to backorder it before it goes into redemption period.

I just called snapnames, and they stated that this name appears to have been in redemption period before they signed the contract with netsol. So just to be safe, I will still backorder netsol names with other registrars...

I see NetSol names that seem to be going the SnapNames way and many, usually lesser ones, still going the 'regular' route.

When was that contract?

I have no idea, but chronologically it doesn't add up since the drop procedure is the same. Names that expired before this one, were caught exclusively, so who knows.....

Heh, okay, I guess that's why it didn't make sense to me.

I don't understand the confusion. You or someone else have to actually put the domain in their snapnames list BEFORE the domain goes into redemption.
If it goes into redemption then the domain goes into the usual cycle.

There have been mistakes though. e.g. a couple of domains were in auction and in redemption. They pulled the domains out of redemption and gave the names to the auction winners.

Thanks DVD, I see what you're saying now. So, if no one backorders it through snapnames before it goes into redemption, it just drops like normal, but it only takes one person (or more) to make it an exclusive drop at snapnames...

Thanks for clarifying that.

Isn't that what I said?

Once a domain name enters redemption period, it's out of the registrar's hands, so unless someone makes an inside deal with VeriSign, it's going to drop like normal unless it gets restored, so someone has to backorder it before it enters redemption period for the SnapNames/NetSol deal to work.

Frankly, it's NetSol that needs some redemption; for all the domain hoarding over the years, plus bad service.
