One of my sites (WP) is getting 20-30 comments a day now, all generic comments that could go with any kind of post (some are even way off base - they're quite funny).

I guess the spambots are making some rounds. Luckily my sites are set up that I need to approve all comments so I just go though and delete them all.

the comments are getting more elaborate though! Some are even starting to resemble real comments and many people approve them.

You should use Askimet, the spam comments are almost always automatically sent to your spam box.

Yep - but they're still rather generic.

I have it on all my WP sites and these still get though (and I update it when there are updates available). Some are worth reading, though.

One of my successful wordpress sites got around 50-60 spam comments overnight... I got an email everytime there was a comment, which wasn't good for my poor inbox. There are some good plugins out there though.

This comment made me chuckle a little:

Undertaking some browsing and noticed your web site seems a bit messed up in my K-meleon world-wide-web browser. But luckily hardly anyone uses it any lengthier but you may possibly would like to look into it.

You think a plug for their browser or just bland spamming? :D

Plus, who calls it the world wide web anymore?

Hi,

I get some of that with WP...but a couple months ago I got a Virus on my computer that went straight to my FTP client....I was lucky as I had only 4 websites that I used this FTP Client for.

But, this virus...because I did not secure this FTP client with a master password.... went to all 4 websites and infected them big time.... three where "WP" blogs...

It allowed complete access to them.... and automatically created new categories, tags, made new post with links in them...to affiliate products etc...

It was a 'pain in the %$*...as all 4 sites got flagged in Google...and I had to spend a couple hours with my web-host to get everything fixed...then I had to submit the urls to Google to get them to remove the nice.... big red "infected" page...they put on all my 4 sites.

It also changed some of the "permissions" of files from like "644" to "755" etc...for every site.

I just am thankful it did not hit my other FTP client as...it has over 30+ websites on it......
