Greetings,
Just wondering....
With every single-word in the dictionary taken...do you speculate on new words/slang that may be in the dictionary someday.

Example...
Here in Pennsylvania they just legalized slot machines and a local DJ said he heard that they were going to call them Slotsinos (these are slot parlors...just slots)

So I took out....
www.slotsinos.com and... www.slotsino.com

Just in case....

What do you think?
Is it worthwhile trying to anticipate.....
Would these have value if the term started to catch on?

Thanks,
Jerry

P.S. Single word domains...do they automatically have some value simply because they are one word.
A couple of days ago, I found and registered scatback.com.....scatback is a football term

The risk/benefit ratio for speculating on new terms is pretty low, suggesting that is quite a good idea. Especially if you have reason to believe a term will become popular in the near future.

In regards to your second question, one of the most common mistakes that newbies make is the assumption that domains must be valuable because they are one word. In the case of scatback, this word is used so rarely as to make the domain worthless.

Thanks Dragon,
Very much appreciated.

I just did a search of "slotsinos" and found the clip below....

Does anyone know if this sounds like a probable trademark issue.....or something potentially positive.

yes, can easily be the best form of speculation. Although a combo of words rather than creation, that's how I registerd and sold smartphone.com and datapipe.com quite some time ago. Now working on selling vacubot, carputer, nanology etc.

Absolutely. Let me give you an example - you know about the new system where they take samples of dead musicians and create new songs by computer?

They recently coined a term for this: Necrophonics. I kid you not!

So I immediately went out and got necrophonics.com and necrophonic.com.

Make me an offer :)

There was "news" that a certain celebrity was going to be changing his name. I got the .org. It appears to not have happened. :)

Well, I would rather take the gamble of losing $6-9 then losing xxx+ :)

made-up words, are the biggest gamble......and also can bring big payoffs as well!

they can be branded easily into developed websites.

giving the appearance of "something new",yet to be tried!

I always keep a few in my portfolio, just in case

Some terms are "whored" in the media for a while and then die....but it really depends on how well people pick up the term and run with it. I've got certain terms which haven't yet been coined in the press but will be.....don't want to post them though :approve:
