Hi;

We have noticed a violation of Registrar rules and sent a complaint to CIRA and as a result some of the Jan 9, 2007 TBR Domains are cancelled;

We would like to see all cancelled because a small variation causes an avalanche effect.

At least better than nothing.

So, some domains will be back in the next weeks list.

Here is what CIRA announced to the Registrars:

All Registrars,

During the January 9 TBR session, it was discovered that a number of domain names were registered with the same registrar within a period that was less than five (5) seconds apart. This occurrence happened due to the presence of a particular set of variables. CIRA will update the TBR system to ensure that this circumstance will not re-occur.

TBR registration rules do not permit registration by the same registrar if the registration interval is less than five seconds. As a consequence, the domain names that were identified as being registered in non-compliance with the TBR rules will have the registration cancelled. These domain names will be made available for new registration during the next TBR session (January 16). The updated TBR list for next week will also include those TBR domain names that were not granted on January 9 due to the violation of the one-connection rule.

Hi Bulent,

Thanks for posting. I could see there were a number of problems with the drop. CIRA should have cancelled it and pushed all names to next weeks TBR. In the past, CIRA did the right thing and cancelled a TBR, it looks shady that they let this one slide through.

Thanks Bulent for the heads up...a mess for you guys as well...

It's a good to know that Siber was keeping their eye on things, it helps to keep things a little more level...

What's surprising is that Cira didn't already have something in place to safeguard against this from happening. I do agree though, the whole thing should have been canceled... I wonder if there are penalties levied against registrars for non-compliance - will they still be in the running for the same names next week?

Good questions

Looking at the TBR session you can see that dotCanuck and Namespro did not violate the 5 second rule. Why did they lose their names?
