Could someone who knows the .in market tell me how much is the value of this name ?

I have recvd two offers in recent weeks and i am not sure how much I should, if I do sell, sell it for.

The high offer was $500 which I have alredy rejected.

opinions/advise appreciated.

Regards
Nick

I suggest, take $500 and run.

Yes I would take the money.

Great name.
I think it would be very short-sighted to take the money and run!
This is a huge and rapidly expanding market (.IN) with the value of great names appreciating steadily.
I do not place many, if any, of my LLL.IN for sale on forums as end-users will find you and their offers are substantial!
Unless you need the money.... hold for the next few years.
Good Luck

Thanks for your opinions guys..I think I will take Domainlobe's advise

Domainlobe...thanks for your adivse...I will hold on to it.

anymore opinions from .in domainers.

$500.00 is a good offer but not enough for such a good name..

If I have it I am not selling it for the next few years.

not enough money to make me run..

One can buy better .in domains with $500.

I'm from India, so I know the market over here. There is no use of this domain here. Some of the reasons are as follows:

1. Most wireline phones in India have been installed by 2 government owned companies. (MTNL and BSNL). These companies provide printed directories free of cost to their customers. Non-customers can buy directories that are distributed on CD media. One can always check the directories (free of cost) on the websites of these 2 state owned companies. These companies will never buy a domain to make another site, when their existing sites are doing the job just fine.

2. Most privately owned wireline phone companies like Airtel don't distribute any directories. They already have their portal at airtel.in where they can add any extra stuff, so they are not going to buy this domain.

3. Number of wireline phone customers is decreasing rapidly in India because people are switching to cellphones as their primary phones. Cellphones are more reliable and cellphone tariffs in India are the lowest in the world. Cellphone companies don't have any directory and they are not likely to have one in future too because people here are very concerned about junk sale calls.

Given the very little chances of development of this domain, I don't see many people (end-users) making offers for it.

Thanks for your valuable input ps123!

It may be that an enterprising mind has a 'new' idea to offer the Indian people or others trying to access people/businesses in India?

I have no idea on the values of .in domains, but if it was me I'd probably accept the $500 offer. Depends what you paid for the domain of course. If you paid $450 then you might as well keep it, but if you handregged it then I would probably take those $500..

While the above is true it doesn't apply to this domain name. I know why that is because I recently got the .co.in version of it and it gets more traffic than .in, this is because Indians are more versed with .co.in because of google, yahoo and msn on .co.in domain from the beginning.

It is irrelevant that state owned companies distribute directories or not. These are just direct navigation domains if there is a website on these names it will be a good one, if not they always make money because of the natural type ins and the no of visits is going to increase and never going to decrease.

When it comes to value they might never equal their .com version but $500 is less for sure. it deserves a grand at least even today because of its very generic nature.

All the above is based on my own personal experience with my .in portfolio, back in 2005 traffic is null now steadily increasing. I know some of it 10% at least is from domainers looking to register these names. I see good future for .in.

I am a very low key domain speculator who doesn't sell, talk or show my domains usually other than buying them, I got excited this time :)

thank you all for your input...ps123...especially with your background knowledge of India and since I am from India as well and spent 23years there, and If I may,I beg to differ.

This is how I see it working out ...

Brand domains are more important than generic domains...I completely agree to that. But as a company grows they start looking at new methods of sales acquisition.
Generic domains will be bought by companies irrelevant of how big their brand is as it is more of a another source of traffic which they may or may not get to their main domains. (This is from my personal experience).

It is as I see covering all the avenues for sales. Its just a matter of time for companies in India to get net savy and understand the value of generic domains. Also note apart from sales it is also important to fight your competitors of by filling the front page of SE's with your own branded site followed by your generic sites. If a competitor has to compete with multiple sites, their jobs becomes more and more difficult. (I do SEO as well so this is also from personal experience).

The next point which I consider even more important is that no matter which part of India you go to "telephone directory" as a word (though English) is well known, even in the smaller and remote towns.

Its the power of consumer perception of the word and not brand popularity in this case. Its just a matter of time and I think I will ride the wave rather than sell it now.

Pls feel free to comment on my resoning...appreciate your input.

I 100% agree with this statement of yours. Right now India is where the USA was in 1997 when it comes to understanding and use of the internet.

.in will grow at a very rapid pace in coming years. I believe that we will catch up with the rest of the world in next 3-5 years and .in will be among the most valuable ccTLDs. Anyone who is holding short and generic .in domains is sitting on a goldmine, provided one is willing to wait for 3-5 years.

But I still think that TelephoneDirectory.in is fully priced at $500 and there is no scope of further appreciation for next 3 years. :)

OMG! telephonedirectory.in is a generic local domain for a country with over one billion population. It can't get anymore generic. Be little generous and appraise it to a grand atleast! for this one I think there is no need to wait for 3 more years :)
