Hi

I got an email from snapnames, and the main content i my email was:
"The domain name has been removed from the root name
servers. As a result, web site, email and other server
functions may stop functioning. A name may be removed from
the root name server because the registrar has put a hold
on it during a dispute, or for non-renewal. The latter case
increases the odds of a pending release of the name."

When do you think networksolution will dop this domain.
Record expires on 09-Aug-2001.
Record created on 08-Aug-1996.
I'm starting to thinking that I never are going to get this domain,

Just give it a few more days or weeks at most. Good Luck :)

If its been put onhold, you are looking at maybe anywhere from a couple days to a week or two. Most onhold names dont last longer than that.

No offense, but you probably will have difficulty getting the name if its that good. Cuz once the registrar deletes the domain, it still goes into a 5-day period before it is actually deleted. Once it reaches that point, everyone will know about it.

Whois Server Version 1.3

Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net for detailed information.

Domain Name: xxxxxxxxxx.NET
Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Referral URL: http://www.networksolutions.com
Name Server: ASIAONLINE.NET
Name Server: NS1.ASIAONLINE.NET
Updated Date: September 1

The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU domains and
Registrars.

Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB.
Local WHOIS DB must be out of date.
############################

Basically, your name was removed from the root, which means it is officially on-hold.

That's good news, as it means it's dropping for sure, unless it's renewed.

Now the WHOIS above....when it goes like that, it means either one of three things right now.

The key sentence is the "Local DB" one - this signals your drop.

1. The domain will drop five days from the date above i.e. Sep 6.
2. The domain will drop six days from the date above i.e. Sep 7
3. The domain will drop any day now or has already dropped - this one is new. Get the scripts out!!! In this case there may be no date, or the date is "out of kilter" with today's actual date.

If you are adamant about getting the name, you should also use these services:

www.expirefish.com
www.namefox.com
www.namewinner.com
www.nicgenie.com

Hope this helps,

Actually, there is no guarantee that a name removed from the root zone file will be dropped - though it's likely.

We have put dozens of domains on registry hold this year due to fraudulent credit card orders, lack of promised payment, etc. All of these domains have been dropped from the root file - and yet none will be available for re-registration until we either have them DELETEd or their current paid period (paid by us, not by the customer) at the registry expires.

You say, if a registrar sets a domain ON HOLD at will, it's more likely that the expiry date is in the future? Can one speculate on the opposite: If a domain drops from the root if it's *after* its expiry date, then it's likely to be either renewed or dropped?

Is there any way to find out whether a domain is really ON HOLD or not ?
