The guys at droplists.net say they get the raw domain data from Verisign at http://www.droplists.net/info.htm Where can this raw data been found at Verisign?

I have another question. They say "The next step is to go through all of these names and acquire their registration status. " I just want to know how can they get the registration status for so many domains since many registrar has a query on their whois server?

For whois lookups, you will have to throttle the rate of your requests and/or use multiple IP addresses to keep from getting banned.

The zone files are large, and don't include domain names that are registered but inactive (no name servers or expired/on hold).

I used to download zone files every day and do my own research, but this type of service is widely available at good prices now, so why bother?
