I am thinking about selling one of my prized possessions. I am in the need of some money, so I am putting my site http://www.tech-jobs.com up for sale

I just can't seem to find the right time to take it to the next level. I have managed to generate $100-200 per month thru various sources, but haven't felt the right time to start charging anything for job postings. This site has excellent search engine listings. Check these out:

"Tech Jobs"

#1 at the Yahoo Directory
#4 at Yahoo.com
#7 at Google.com
#3 at MSN.com

It is also listed in Dmoz.org.

There are a variety of other decent rankings for 'computer jobs', 'technology jobs', 'technical jobs', and more. I have also been trying to focus the site towrds freelance, and distance learning for even more revenue. The site has been getting a good 100+ daily uniques for over 1 year now.

The domain itself is of significant value. I am not sure of exact appraisal, but I know the non hyphenated version is somewhere along the lines of $60k.

The site also has a strong PR5. I am hoping a PR6 next update. I just started a link exchange that very well may jump it even further in the s.e. rankings.

Here are some keyword results from Overture and Wordtracker:

tech jobs 7,150.0 /day (wordtracker) tech jobs 1,567.0 /day (overture)

I am only looking for serious offer in the $x,xxx- xx,xxx range. I may also be interested in partial trades. I won't feel bad if I don't sell, but I could use the money. If I hold on to it, I will go for a new design and script, as this one isn't the greatest, but it has obviously got the job done :eek:k:

I will gladly try to answer any reasonable questions. Please, NO FLAMING, if you aren't interested, just move along

I'm interested in your site. A couple of questions:

- How old is the site?
- Is all of your revenue from AdWords?
- What are the site's operating expenses (i.e. hosting, licenses, advertising, etc.)?
- What software/script is being used on the site today?
- You mentioned upgrading the script, which would you migrate to?
- What is included (licenses, hardware, etc.)?
- What is your revenue by month for the last 12 months?

Thanks,
Chad

Thanks for the questions.

- How old is the site?

This current application of the site is 1.5 years old, however, the domain tech-jobs.com used to be owned by a technology job recruitment company and is somewhere around 5 years old. (it did have a previous site on it)

- Is all of your revenue from Adsense?

A portion of it is. Revenue also comes from the freelance affiliate at:
http://www.tech-jobs.com/freelance.php and

the online education affiliates at:
http://www.tech-jobs.com/tech-jobs-education.php

- What are the site's operating expenses (i.e. hosting, licenses, advertising, etc.)?

I pay $15/month for hosting. The guy I bought the script off of over 1.5 years ago continues to host it for me. Since it has good search engine rankings, I don't need to advertise, however you can of course. You also don't need to keep it hosted where it is, but I figured since the guy knows the script, it would just be easier. There are no obligations however.

- What software/script is being used on the site today?

That I am unsure of. I have seen this type of script for sale a few times before. Generally the price was around $300 give or take. I don't know the proper name of it tho.

- You mentioned upgrading the script, which would you migrate to?

I was thinking something like they use at computerjobs.com. More search engine and user friendly. I am not sure what it would even cost, and it may be a big risk, as the search engine rankings can't get much better to begin with. My next main focus was to try to start getting some rankings for the keywords 'job search', then move to 'jobs'. Top ranking sites for these searches enjoy thousands of visitors a day. A few good examples are Dice.com, Brassring.com, and Computerjobs.com.

- What is included (licenses, hardware, etc.)?

The site/script, and domain name. I will also share any and all of the affiliates I use to generate revenue.

- What is your revenue by month for the last 12 months?

If I could give you an exact figure, I would be lieing, but PROFIT is in the neighborhood of $2k. Keep in mind, I have never sold text links, or any paid advertising, and I have never charged employers or jobseekers anything. I am not sure it is time to do that yet, but it would be up to the new owner.

I hope I have answered to your satisfaction? Thanks for the questions. They were very good ones. If you have any more, don't hesitate.

Hi Peter,

Please see above for revenue sources.

As far as job postings go, these are actual companies that are posting. These jobs are not 'pulled' or taken from other job sites. I have even had jobs posted by INTEL INC.!

Everything is completely automated. These aren't all the jobs posted either. I have deleted quite a few. Actually in the admin area, you can control how long you would like a job listing to be active for..for example...6 months. I try to keep it as full as I can, to entice more employers and job seekers, but of course, you have to draw a line on how old the postings are....lol.

Thanks for the questions. Hope this helps?

Jer

ALSO, SOMEONE HAD BROUGHT UP A PRETTY NEAT PROPOSAL, ASKING ME IF I WOULD POSSIBLY CONSIDER SELLING AS A 'PARTNERSHIP'.

WHAT THEY MEANT WAS THEY WOULD BUY HALF OWNERSHIP (HALF OF WHAT I WOULD SELL FOR) THEN SPLIT ALL REVENUES 50-50.

I GUESS THIS WOULD BE BENEFICIAL IF THE RIGHT PERSON HAS CONNECTIONS AND CAN HAVE ACCESS TO MORE JOBS, OR BETTER IDEAS OF EXPANDING THE SITE.

I THOUGHT THIS AS TO BE AN INTERESTING IDEA. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY THOUGHTS OR ADVICE ON THIS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I MAY BE INTERESTED, BUT NOT SURE. I DEFINATELY KNOW WE WOULD NEED A CONTRACT AND STUFF. PROS AND CONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

THANKS.

Not 100% dead set on an exact price. More or less will be determined by the offers I recieve. Those that have dealt with me before, can attest that I am open to just about anything interesting :-D

I have recieved a few modest offers, but nothing compelling enough to sell. I will only accept offers for the next few days, then I will stop the sale and start reworking the site. Don't miss this chance!
