legal User Democrat - Patty Similien

I knew Patty had a lot of "hot air", high expectations and all... But I never once figured her for a scammer. With all the correspondence we had, there was not a sign of foul play.

Yes Raider...at the end of the day...you are a good person...who I would do business with...There was never a moment I would do business with this "patty" person. I am always trusting my instincts.

113 callbacks?? In one day? lol...seriously where are the mods?

from reading through this thread

i see that many members still do not do research or ask questions before doing biz with people.
as a little digging would have raised many questions.

no one seems to have bothered to ask Patty for any references as a broker, list of previous names sold, etc, beforehand

everyone taking her word on face value

this is another "Teachable Moment" for many

others should be taking serious notes for the future!!!

From the looks of it, Paypal has your money frozen in her account, Have you called Paypal to get further details? I would do that first.

Also, What form of payment did you use?

Keep in mind, you have 60 days from the date of the transaction to dispute the charge with your credit card company or Bank debit card...

I wouldn't be too worried, If you didn't pay by wire, you should get your money back NP.

Umm...wrong bank debit cards are note the same as credit cards and do not have to follow the same rules, you are more at the mercy of your bank if you pay with a debit card

so he just doesn't get his money back if paid by debit card...

Very good post. I do not think directed at anyone in particular...just a good post.

no

my post was not directed towards anyone specific

but my suspicions are raised very quickly, as i've seeeeeeeen a lot of members come and go

sympathy posts are always a tip-off

as well as "project", "broker", "i got a client" and "investor" posts

though there are legitimate members who indulge in these effforts.

anyone responding to these types of posts for the purpose of doing business,
should do so with their eyes "wide" open.

don't get involved because you want to be friends, feel sorry for them or want to get in the "clique".
the focus should always be on getting or delivering the "service-at-hand".

friendships come after...

Raider is a pain in the ass.

But at the end of the day, she is a fellow domainer.

Umm...wrong bank debit cards are note the same as credit cards and do not have to follow the same rules, you are more at the mercy of your bank if you pay with a debit car

I'm not going to address the articles you cited, or the authors who wrote them, I had a merchant account for over 4 years and know the rules quite well.. If your credit card or bank card has a Visa or MasterCard logo it, and it was run as a credit transaction, You have 60 days to dispute the charge from the date of transaction.... I know this to be a FACT.

Same goes for ACH, you have 60 days to dispute it with your bank.

This should of never been processed through Paypal in the first place... Your just asking for trouble.

Lesson learnt...

1) I approached her (based on some of her posts here), not the other way around, so my suspicions were low.

2) I saw that she owned some domains, and that she had a blog talking about her success in selling domains.

3) Nothing suspicious about her past record here (at that time)

5) She never asked me for money up front. Our agreement was commission only.

Only very recently were there unanswered emails, and a couple that didn't make sense... then the this thread came up.

something similar at this end , the difference being that everytime i would ask about the progress on the names being brokered , i would be met with delaying tactics such as
" working on them. I have sent out feelers "
or
" you are on the list"
or
" I must not have made it clear that I have a very long list of people that I am brokering names for. "

The latest was decided that by Aug 15 to be the date for results...

Good that someone started this thread , made a fool out of many of us..many new people like me + few seasoned domainers as well ;)

Atleast now one knows that there's no sense wasting time ( yes keeping someone waiting , on the pretext that you are brokering their names is outright wrong )

Arrgh....

Okay don't address the articles, I'll tell you from what I've seen from many years. If you pay with a credit card you are safe, if you pay with a debit card a bank is less likely to take your fraud charge seriously.

The industry states this and many websites state this.

I know PIRG must be evil as well:

If you pay with a debit card where you enter your pin number, then yeah, the bank may take it less seriously, After all, who other than YOU knows the pin number right?.

Does Paypal now allow you to enter your pin number online?, It must be a new feature...LOL.

I know we are all dumb compared to you....after all you voted for Bush and you know whats right...

I voted for Bush huh?... Does ignorance run in your family or are you the only one who suffers from it?
