Personally, I don't like the Blackberry UI / OS. I've used several (in testing) and I prefer Pocket PC OS. That is a personal preference but if you like the OS, I hear it is a good unit.
But, they are reliable and built tough and (from people who like BBs). Some friends of mine use the 8830 w/ Sprint and they love it. They say the touch button / track-button wears down after a little while, though.

If it's like Sprint (which I think it is) it's by the amount of data (in KB), not time but usually devices like this haver (or should have) unlimited access.
For an example:
Download a picture, 150KB
Get an email: 5KB
Go to a web site: 300KB

Not bad, I think most companies charge extra for Blackberry based plans.
The question is - if you're going to be surfing the web with it, how much data is included (not just email)?
(8 years working in the wireless industry speaking now).

If it is unlimited then you can access all day and not be billed. But be forwarned, many companies have a hidden cap, but it is usually somewhere over 1GB (which you'd have to be streaming 24-7 or running a server to get there).
Minutes are seperate from data. Like if you have DSL service at home and your home phone line, one is irrlevant to the other (unless you don't pay your bill).

I have a Blackberry. I think it is the 8100
I have Suncom, going to be T-Mobile in a week. T-Mobile bought them a few months ago.
I currently pay $15 per month extra for internet, unlimited.
I only get charged if I am not using their towers, while roaming.
