For me I'm usually very specific about what I want. I don't buy domains to resell, I'm only looking to make new websites or enhance ones I already own with a better domain name. It doesn't take very long to make $60 back. The renewal prices are expensive at namescout, where pool names go, but I'll tranfer them to somewhere cheaper and get a year's free reg at the same time when the renewal comes up.

Right, the $60 is worth it to, somewhat, insure that you will get the name if you are interested in development for sure.

Hey icehole. I remember you. welcome back.

Most of the drop auction services are too expensive now. It's not like 2002 when it was easy street and you could get a prime one word .com for $100. Not even worth getting involved in the big auction sites unless you have serious money to throw down. Occasionally there are bargains to be had there though if you pay attention(when others are not.) Now, there are robots that register and drop names after just a few days and everything is just more chaotic now, so some good names do fall through the cracks. Also, many people have moved to catching other extensions like .biz .us etc and some people even backorder .cc

I mostly use the eyeball technique now, which is to say that I eyeball every single name, and grab something if catches my eye.

The last one is an understatement (hardwork).....My problem is I can't find enough hours in a day to devote to catching anything worth while :disappointed:

Hand regs are still working for me. True, I backorder likely names to increase my chances. However, I leave several fish on the floor and attempt to register. With luck, it works.
