Some people will tell you "It depends" - especially if they are intellectual property lawyers that need new business.

In response to your last question, no - it's not OK - in fact not developing it and/or offering it for sale makes it even worse because that can be seen as evidence of bad faith on your side by the WIPO arbitration body.

Need straightforward advice? Here goes: "Don't buy trademarked domains in any extension if you value your time and like to sleep well."

Read somewhere recently that nowadays trademark holders can bypass the WIPO process and start legal procedings against the domain holder straightaway.

Even if they don't, is it really worth it knowingly getting into such tricky areas when there are so many safe and reputable opportunities around?

Don't be so afraid. The TM may not be in the same business as you are in or they are not present in your country.
