What's a 'Trackback'?

Pardon my newbie-ness, but...

I just noticed at the bottom of the DNF Posting screen a (new?) function to 'Send Trackbacks to' a URL.

In a nutshell - What's this for? :?:

It allows you to have updates to the thread sent to a script of yours, it pings your script that there has been an update. In the future this will be more useful as it gains in usage and popularity.
