I wonder how deleteddomains.com and other services get WHOIS data for all com/net/org domains. Are they doing bulk whois lookups or have some direct access to WHOIS information?

Thats a good question. If they don't get that info from the zone file, what file do they get it from? If they get it from a third party, where does that third party get it from?

However, that data isn't always accurate. Plenty of domains in their "on hold" list don't expire until later this year, or beyond. One name I registered weeks ago still shows up in the list, too, as do others which have been dropped and reregistered.
