In a recent post by Frank Schilling, he mentioned that there is a way to see how many people look up your whois information. Anybody know of the tool or way to do this?

Register/transfer your domains to fabulous.com , they offer this in the "host" data

Interesting. Thanks B.King. How about any 3rd party tools?

Watcher, went to domaintools but how do you make the search? Is it a pay service?

Yes to see the history, you need to become a member. Nice tool to use when you plan to buy expensive domain.

I think he wants to know , How many people look up the whois database for his domains , Whois history wont be able to provide that , the only one who can provide you with such information is your registrar since they host the record , the only registrar that I am aware that provides this data is fabulous.com

Whois.sc records every whois query, that counts number of visit to your whois records.

I wasnt aware of that , can this be accessed by using the history tool?

Yes B.King that is what i am trying to find out. Watcher if domaintools has this feature i cant find how to do the query. Thanks for the info so far guys:)

Is it the Domain History Tool?

Yes, they rebrand it from whois to domaintools

it's easy to check

whois.sc/google.com

then you will see 1000+ whois archive.

Watcher, I see the whois record, and i use domain tools whois lookup but dont see any whois archive, are you on a paid membership that shows alot more info possibly?

Yes, I use it when I plan to purchase an expensive name. To check the history of ownership of domain before making an offer.

If your talking about "whois history" under domaintools exclusive, then looks like i need to upgrade, but you are saying when you buy the upgrade you get the whois queries to your names as part of the feature correct?

The upgrade will give you more tools such us able to see the whois archive since it 2003 or first whois check to the domain.

I wish there was a way to find the contact info of persons who are checking whois of my domains. ;)

URLtrader

That would be hard to implement, unless the visitor registered as member of whois db.

A quick solution, is to update your whois information on how to contact you if there are interested of buying your names. Buydomains do this on their domains forsale.

Will Fabulous still record the whois info (with people checking) if it is parked elsewhere?

Unfortunately there is no way to accurately calculate the number of people who are looking up your whois data. While some registrars might do this, there are databases that also record it.

If you want to find out who is snooping around, check out your weblogs and spend some time going over them, especially the referrers.

If you are concerned about privacy, you could always check with your registrar to see if they offer WhoisGuard (like namecheap) or Godaddy's Private Registration. It costs a bit extra, but its well worth it - cuts down on the spam too.

Tell you a little trick..

If you create a google alert:

http://www.google.com/alerts

on your domain name, or your company listed in your domains whois, you will be surprised how many alerts you get for whois lookups at the exact instant that google spiders the whois website
