There's a domain name registered WITH register.com which I have a snap on. The whois says that the domain name is also registered TO register.com.

I wish I could check the old whois data to see if it was previously registered to someone other than register.com.

Are registrars allowed to register domain names themselves, before they drop?

I emailed [email protected] more than a week ago asking them but still no reply.

Does it say unpaid names department? If so, then it probably won't drop, but will be sold to somebody.

No idea if it's legal - but register.com and netsol often do it. They have justifications and other names foir it however.
