Is there a trademark issue with using names like Yahoo and Google as prefixes on domain names. ex. Googlenic.com

Yes....not wise to register names like that, if the TMs are famous. If they are common words, it's less risky.

Don't even think about it. Actually, simply ***hoo.com will get you in big trouble, not to say the rest.

Search the WIPO decisions. Yahoo aggressively goes after anything with their "yahoo" in it.

There is www.YooHoo.net --the chocolate drink--and www.WaHoo.com --the studio. Plus a lot of commonly used phrases that contain similiar letters.

No doubt though--you definitely shouldn't try and register something with "Google" or "Yahoo" in the name though.
That's just asking for trouble.
