I think you may have tm issues. Yahoo is pretty strict and they have people actively looking into this type of stuff.

Originally was going to use to market the site below as an affiliate when I bought it:

Also, was curious if there would be value in other product names that are out there if an affiliate program exists and the original product creator did not take the name. Would that create trademark issues, too?

Right now I haven't done anything with the name, but logic leads me to believe that if someone is teaching others how to profit by signing up and spending money at Yahoo they wouldn't have a lot of problem with it, as it actually is promoting their product.

Am I wrong about this? Does Yahoo actually deter people from bringing them customers and promoting their own product?

You have to understand that yahoo is the most visited site in the world. They actually have a trademark department and all they do is look for trademark violations. If it was a smaller fish maybe but yahoo, no way. I observed too many cases with them.
