Yup, many members of DNF use domains as their only income.

I am a Commerce student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

I work from home and travel, that's why I'm on the forum all the time and then disappear for days.
I am the U.S. sales trainer/rep for a little company in Canada that makes probably the worlds best ergonomic office chairs.

A little plug for my company: the chairs are expensive but amazing ($500-$3000). Custom built and hand assembled with about a 6 week wait time but a lifetime warranty. They only build about 8,000 chairs per year. Anyone ready to buy the last office chair you will ever need, I'm your guy for a good deal :) I don't typically sell direct myself but am willing to do it on an individual basis when it doesn't conflict with my dealers.

I wanted to take advantage of my free time to get a side business going. I found domaining...no overhead, very low risk, very high reward opportunity. So far I have been successful looking into the future to find domains and typos around upcoming events and developments. It helps being able to prowl the internet and watch news throughout the day. It's not enough to support a family yet.

I'm currently studying Business Administration at the University of Bologna, Italy.
I have a few years left, but I hope to earn enough with domains to make them my full time job. At the moment I need to add some zeros to the monthly income to make it worthwile to give up a future top manager job :)

I'm doing several things to make an internet business my only source of income, Domains, Adsense, Affiliate Marketing. It's a joy and I'm learning alot. Started my first website and domain purchase in June of 2005.

I was always afraid of taking risk. But last year, it came to a realization that in order to get ahead in life, you need to take risk and make the choices that you want to make. I've always had a 9-5 job as a System Administrator for a Fortune 500 company. But I only make enough to pay the bills, so essentially when working for someone they only pay you enough to get you to come back the next day to pay your bills. They don't pay you to get rich, that's something you need to do for yourself.

And the news came that my IT job would be sent offshore. That's when it hit home and I new I had to do something. Since then I've enjoyed every minute of it, everyday there's something new. Though I'm not making enough to quit my job yet, I do have another year before my job is gone, because we're training the other people in transition. I gave myself a 2-3 year goal to make this a full time job. 75% to go.

Best Regards and Good Luck,
Sean.

What do you do for money?
Nothing, I'm retired, mess around a bit with web sites, domains etc, but not for profit; more for fun and education.

I think that if you want to have a sustainable 'career' in this business you have to stay ahead of the curve. In other words spend some time every day thinking about the natural history of the internet and its associated opportunities.

If you can predict even one significant step in the evolution of this business and launch yourself to the forefront you will succeed ( for a while ) until the next inevitable stage.
Personally, I have a feeling that the english internet as we know it will give way to a truly multi-lingual net with IDN's dominating. Not that I have done anything to learn about that facet of domaining yet.

That being said this is a hobby for me. I do like the fact that one can achieve a real return on time and money invested though. I have a great professional job but do have aspirations for less conventional work and more 'home-based' domain work.
This is an interesting thread. I hope more experiences and aspirations are contributed by exclusive members.
Thanks.

Ill ask this in here because I dont think people in the golds forums really know a whole lot about what this is.

And because I was thinking about future for these two.

Do you think these will do well. Because there not popular now but they just might be in sometime.

Since we're talking predictions, I predict that internet advertising will move away from Pay Per Click and towards Pay Per Conversion in the next few years.

I believe this because I think click fraud and foreign traffic will become more and more of an issue for advertisers.

I quitted school 2 years before Bacalaureat (=~ A-Levels)
and worked for some companies as a programmer/webdesigner.
But then I discovered I won't earn enough money with this job so I came to UK to study and I'm now a first year student in a Bsc of Intelligent Systems combined with Software Engineering in Oxford Brookes University. I am there as a mature student (I'm 24 though)

And my goal in the life is to make money! (and be happy, have a wonderful wife, etc...)
And I have to admit that, thankfully to my studies in Intelligent Systems and Semantics, this is quite helpful to write programs to find good domains for me :-D
