ICANN is hosting a webinar titled Compliance to RDAP Service for Registrars in Middle East and Africa Region.
This virtual training session is aimed at registrars in the Middle East and Africa region and focuses on improving compliance with RDAP service requirements.
About the webinar
The webinar will explain how registrars can improve their Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) service and become compliant with relevant sections of the Registrar Accreditation Agreement.
According to ICANN, the session is designed to increase knowledge of ICANN’s contractual requirements to provide RDAP Directory Service and ICANN’s tool for monitoring whether a registrar’s RDAP service conforms to the required standards.
What is RDAP?
RDAP, the Registration Data Access Protocol, enables users to access current domain registration data. It was created as the replacement for the older WHOIS protocol.
ICANN explains that all gTLD registries and registrars are required to provide RDAP services. RDAP was developed by the technical community through the Internet Engineering Task Force and is now central to how gTLD registration data is accessed.
Why this matters to the domain industry
RDAP is now a core part of domain name infrastructure and registrar compliance. For accredited registrars, RDAP is not simply a technical feature: it is part of contractual compliance, data access, operational reliability and transparency in the gTLD ecosystem.
