£.cc

.CC had it's IDN launch the other day and I was able to grab £.cc,the British Pound sign.

What do you think?

A keeper - but I hope the IDN doesn't contribute to spammers. Are you a spokesman or salesman for the IDN dillpup?

I'm just an IDN fan,an "unofficial" spokesman! What on earth would an IDN have to do with spammers?

It's easy to spoof characters to an extent.. Like £££££.com etc etc - easy to mix foreign characters together for the sake of sending mass email etc.

Personally I like the IDN for single words/pairs of words in foreign languages.

As you know I have many!

Oh..I have never ever heard of this.I don't see how can it be any easier or more desirable to do than spamming with any other characters.

Anyway..that's enough Spam talk for an appraisal thread! Let's get some appraisals on £.cc :-)

A rough price? God knows :-) I've had problems with appraisals of mine in the past! I like to base it on the last sales of the IDN - like tyres.se in swedish sold for a very nice price.

But a single pound sign that ends in CC? Unsure.

The pound symbol is great but the .cc kills this IDN. I have the domain name france.cc which in any other TLD would be worth a small fortune and yet I can't even get $xxx.oo for it. I would easily pay well in excess of $1000 for the same SLD in a .com however.

What could £.CC be used for anyway? Its all good having a single letter.. But how could a business benefit from the name?

I think .com or .net IDN are better?

Well yes,obviously.COM will always be better than us,biz, info, org, and the 500 other extensions out there, but that doesn't mean all these other extensions have no value.I do however have ₩.com ,the Korean currency symbol, the Won.

Who knows? How is PayPal benefitting by owning x.com? They're really not. It's just my opinion, but I think any company dealing with money in the UK could benefit by having a unique and unforgettable address like this.

Well I'm sticking with them.Back in April everyone was telling me how worthless single letter IDN .com and net were. Now just 8 months later I've sold about 40 of them from anywhere from $200-$5000 a piece. Most recently I sold a few COM's on the Afternic Bazaar for $600.
Also on Sedo, many of the one-letter IDN's have multiple bids.Of course this ones a .CC,but it's the same sort of thing.A Pound symbol is much more useful than a random letter. I think it's day will come.

if £.com just went for $1k then this is worth not even $50 imo.

Can I just rotate the number "3" key on my keyboard 180 degrees to get a "£"?

I think the buyer of £.com got the bargain of the century. The pound sign is probably the most well known symbol in the UK.The .COM version borders on priceless IMO.Who here would not want $.com? A company called MoneyEdge bought £.com.It's a great milestone though, more excellent exposure for IDN's.
Aside from the £.cc, I also have ₩.com Korean Won Symbol and 円.tv ,Japanese Yen Symbol. After the sale of £.com,I don't think it will be long before people at least start thinking twice about such names.
Matt

EDIT: €.tv is already a shopping site
