Similar names (1995.com, 1997.com, etc) aren't developed, but Ultimate Search has www.1997.com, which suggests I'm on solid ground with it.

Ultsearch grabed 1997.com because it's the year when Hong Kong returned to China, AND Ultsearch is a Chinese.

in the uk there have been countless programs recently looking at the events of yesteryear

it wouldnt be too hard building a site which only printed the news of 1996 - the info is already on the web - it would just be a matter of collating it
