Hello good people!!
I recieved an email from Verizon expressing interest in my url
1Bill.com :D
I have had several freinds tell me that is a great url..very marketable..I was wondering , because it is generic and crosses many industries, if anyone had any idea's how I could go about getting several companies interested thus bidding it up.
Now as far as market potential.. is it not what most people want..to have all there bills consolidated into one?
Any input would be great!!!
Also what do you think of Vid4.com...it is my shortest url
Thanks Al

Yeah, I can hear the greed setting in already. Quick story for you...

A few years ago Jupiter Communications writes me and asks how much for ???.com. I ask for an offer. They offer $100K on their next email,...so I am thinking "Who the hell starts at $100K?". This must be the low end of their offer. I countered with $150K and they said "No Thanks", and bought another domain.

Sure, you'll say "Who the heck turns down $100K?". Well, when the greed light is on and you can't see ahead of you then you turn down offers that you would of accepted in a heartbeat the week before.

1bill.com is a nice name. But before they make you an offer, decide exactly what you would sell it for, otherwise maybe you too will have your own Jupiter story.

sportacle is right i have a similar story but not a number thats as big

dont be greedy and its interesting that verzion would approach directly as thier ad agency usually handles things like that.

if it has big value to them they would need onebill.com as well which was regged last month so may have contacted him as well

i wouldnt start a bidding war but put a decent price on the table or ask for their offer.

just my opinion and would check the email to make sure not from a verizon email user and from the company itself.

just to be sure

good luck

A bidding war may not be in your best interest, as companies are usually willing to pay what you want (if reasonable) and don't like to get jerked around.

When I say "reasonable", I mean they are approaching you with one of two mindsets:

1. The domain cost him $35 (they still believe this), and we are offering $500 tops. That is more than 10X his/her money.

2. We want the domain. Go up to $10K and if he/she wants more, ask the VP for permission.

Truly, I have sold a domain that started at $500 and five email later we had the price up to $27.5K. But, they wanted the domain and had a budget. The cheap compaies will shrug you off after they hear you want more than $70. The ones who want the domain will know what they can pay ahead of time.

Introducing too many people into the scenario gets tough. I had this happen when I launched a newspaper ad in Sandusky, Ohio for Sandusky.com. The local newspaper even bid on the domain. In the end, it was hard to decide who got the domain because both sides said we are willing to go as high as the other +$1. Shoot, I almost lost the sale altogether because when I told one party that the other wouldn't go higher they said "Great, deal closed". Then the other party said, "Wait, we can go a bit higher". In the end everyone was angry at me.. even the eventual buyer, for seemingly jerking everyone around.

Sportacle is right on the money. I was offered $160,000 for wapmail.com in 1999 and turned it down. I still have it, but it's maybe worth 1% of that now. TRUE story--promise. I also have powertax.com and was offered £2000 for that but turned it down in 2000. Oh those heady days. Sh*t.

Will be a tough sell on radio without also obtaining OneBill.com.

I just went there and the name states, "for sale $750."

Do you think Verizon contacted them, too?

Maybe you should contact that owner and partner.

There is strength in numbers.

one + 1 = better than 1 alone.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck.

If you can buy onebill.com for $750, then in your position, I would do exactly that. I reckon your money for both is in the $5000 region.

like we've been saying for days

1 KEY WORD DOMAINS are very valuable

100K +

yet all the jokers here were bashing them

on radio you say

1Bill.com

that's the numeral 1 in front of the word bill .com

numeral 1 B I L L .com

we've used 1 Domain Names for years on the net

people find it

killer name 1 Bill

iBill is worth what?

eBill is worth what?

perfect examples of how i e 1 are valuable prefixes to BUSINESSES

so 1Bill.com is zero according to all thos zero posts about stuff like

1Money.net
1ForSale.com
1Law.com
1Law.net
1Legal.com
1Legal.net
1ForRent.com

etc etc

1 Names rule

0 Names are another hot spot

I wouldn't be so critical of others in this forum. Many of them will turn out to be your best guide when it comes time to need a hand. Making enemies early in your dnforum stay will not help you when you want to sell/buy/trade a domain, or learn how you can make money easier.

I have seen the dumbest comments out of the smartest people but in the end I still rely on others for information.

They seem a heck of lot more willing to lend a hand when I avoid pointing out their flaws or being critical of their opinions.

Maybe I play things differently.

I do believe Money makes a good point....and so does Sportacle...
With Money I agree about the Radio...But I do believe in print 1Bill.com looks way better than OneBill.com..I think I have the more valuable name..Mabye I could offer the guy who owns onebill his $750.00 after I make the sale for both..as far as other 1 names go..you can put a 1 in front of a name and it might not say anything..take 1Law.com..what is it? where as 1bill say's something...get all your bills reduced to 1bill. Thats why I also like my Fast4.com..break it down its fast for dot com. I think it would be a great name for a communication company..
And Sportacle is right...you should never burn a bridge..but thank you all for your positive input..now how the hell do I get rid of this rollyeye's thing?

so what I am gleeming from all this is that I am better off trying to figure out how to develope 1Bill..at least to some degree..thus rendering it more valuable..

Hi - One of the reasons why I asked for more info was because ... I believe there may be a TM/Service Mark on the term "One Bill", or one possibly pending. I would research this further.
Also, be very careful of offering it "for sale" at this point ... your development plan may make more sense. If Verizon wants this domain, and I see no reason why they wouldn't ... you may be best to have the "negotiations" handled 'legally. Just some thoughts.
Good Luck.
PS. Don't start 'seeing green ($$$), yet. :)
