It's not a question of understanding, it's a question of your post not making any sense.

Just realized that I got carried away and described two scams where the buyer is the victim.
sorry my mistake

Wire sounds O.K. - it's very clear transaction - between banks and always between two physical accounts (with all verified personal data). I think this is safer than Escrow. When someone is establishing a bank account - there is a strict verification of gov. issued documents - not just an email address.

When something turns bad - it's very easy to track down what went wrong.

Wire is on the top of my list.

...But when guy is going to ask you for an independent appraisal just before transferring the founds - than it’s old story everyone experienced at some point of our life ;)

is good to be suspicious however give it a try with the safer possible way:

- start a moniker escrow with ALL fees to the buyer
- Request moniker to accept wire payment only for this transaction as he already proposed to u a wire.

If it is a scam will do nothing u don't pay any fees - if he wire the money moniker will wait to clean up on their bank, after this you are safe

recently I had a guy wanted a REAL crappy country typo of a typo domain - wothing ...reg fees. Bad english , bad communication looked 99% scam . Proposed 2800 euros - I proposed 3500 as I was sure it was a scam, he accepted - I started an escrow (on instrunctions I warned that this maybe a scam so to accept wire only, no credit card)
To my suprise he payed, escrow waited 1 week to confrim payment, 1 week delay by me to transfer but all went smoothly. Still name is shows empty page THERE IS NO POSSIBLE way this name to have value but he spent 3500 euros to get it. :ok:

Amazing story,

Anyway I sent the domain sales agreement and he told me to change the date to be effective when he received the wire information.

I sent this information to him today - as his name passed the security checks.

He says he wired me the money, so appraisal scam looks off for now. I'm waiting to see changes reflected in my account before completing the transfer process.

DUNCAN! see this link!
http://www.topix.com/tech/2007/09/google-wants-you-to-share-stuff

Google wants you to "Share Stuff"

Literally, too, but not in the P2P way. Google has added yet another new service, Shared Stuff. Similar to del.icio.us, you share links with a browser bookmarklet that you drag onto your bookmarks toolbar..

Now you know why it may not be such a crappy name after all.

There's an old saying...

One man's trash is another man's cash

Actually, it may not even be an old saying. A friend of mine in undergrad school was a artist and welder. He made a killing off of going to junk yards and scrap metal yards and getting stuff for free and making metal art and made a damn mint. The reason I remember this saying is this was the title of his senior art show.

If the deal does not go through, then it may not be such a huge "boo hoo hoo".

nice find Doc Com, I think some of us saw this kind of potential in the name.

too bad the link wasn't found earlier.

surprised 'shared stuff' and 'sharing stuff' domains aren't gone in all the top extensions.

Direct Wires are a very risky business

what makes you say this?
wondering if you know something i dont.
i always thought, particularly if you are the seller, as in this case, it is as watertight as poss, also cheapest. no fees

Yeah, he was quite surprised. I think he was sure that it was a fake thing.

[ This might make him rethink my suggestion to buy a horde load of LLL.com's ]

It's either some sort of scam, or a buyer who really wants the name badly and is not giving info that can be found in search engines (new email, made up name?). The name has amazing potential for a catch all social site - add photos, add music, add video, add profiles etc. Watch it become the next big Web 2.0 site. Good luck, and is it too late to ask for more for the name?

I guess it was door # 2 from my earlier guess.

Now we know this guy isn't a reseller, he already has a project planned for this domain (which a lot of members here thought was a good quality name).

Congrats on it all working out! good example of the x,xxx offer out of the blue that we all hope for.
