I did a Who-Is lookup on www.whois-search.com and got 2 different expiration dates. This happens on many different domains. I included the output...any ideas on which one is right?

This was the reply to an earlier question, which I think is correct:-

"The registrar has to renew the domain name to put it on hold, otherwise it would go straight into REDEMPTIONPERIOD."

So based on the info above does this domain expire on 3/2003 or 3/2004?

I would say it expires on 3/2003 and the Registrar has had to renew it for a year to put it on hold. If it isn't renewed by the registrant then it will eventually go into Redemption Period and then Pending Delete.
I can't see any other reason why it would now show:-

1) An additional year added.
2) Listed as Registrar-Hold.

Anyone else got any other ideas?

It's weird...this is going on with a lot of domains...I removed a few snaps because I thought they were renewed...but I'm not so sure they were renewed now.

Any help would be great :)

Thanks.

Thanks for the link slave...but it does not appear to address the two different expiration dates in the same file.

I remember a lot of domains showing a 2009 expiration date and I don't see that anymore...just this weird thing of 2 different expiration dates in the same lookup.

I also noticed it on a couple domains earlier this month.

I sent an email to Verisign about the discrepency. They said
that their data was correct. And, then, I noticed that the
data changed.

Another interesting thing I noticed earlier this month. A domain
name that had a expiration date in 2001 but was still marked
active. And, a updated date of 2003. I figure it must have been
a clerical error somewhere. But, how???

So, I thought. "Oh, well. Not my problem!"

There are actually 2 look-up's: one that queries the respective registrar (Network Solutions in this case) and the other verisign-grs (the registry), and that's why you've got 2 different expiration dates.

Also seen this happen several times on names I was following where the exp date went from 2003 then to 2004 and back tp 2003.

Almost cancelled a great Snap on one of my best names when I saw the exp date get changed to 2004. Just by luck I kept the Snap on it (as I did not have another one to switch the Snap to) and after a few days it went back to 2003 and Snapnames got it.

Perhaps this is happening due to computer problems or errors at the registry level, anyone know for sure?

Real...I have seen the same thing....the name looked like it was renewed with the year going from 2003 to 2004. Then all of the sudden it goes back to 2003. Luckly I hadn't taken my snap off of it either. Funny thing is....the status still says active, and has not changed for over 2 months......?!?!?!

As Yodia would say it.."confusing stuff it is....yes".....

The important line is STATUS, which is registrar-hold. It is a hold domain which means it is expired. Just don'y look at the expiration dates

What I've been seeing is:

A week or so after the name expires the registrar updates the staus to Reg-hold and renews the name to exactly one year after the original expiry date. As said above if it's in hold/RGP/PendDelete status, it's gonna drop(unless owner renewed) regardless of what the updated expiry date says.

TN your name definitley expired on March 10th, 2003 and is headed towards RGP.
