I confess to finding this a mystery, when you consider the apparant "slump" at the moment the 3-figure .net prices seem totally out of context.

Incidently where can you find a list of bids that you're not bidding on - is that possible?

Add them to the NameWinner watch list, and you'll see the bid.

Thanks - should have realised that but NW has some strange quirks!

Actually doesn't show high bids for me - when I check a name on my watch list it only shows whether I am the highest bid or not - I cannot see anywhere that I can view what the highest bid is - what am I missing here?

Then this names are not in Your watch list ?? I think?
You only did make bid´s to some names, but did not add otther names into watch list.

Only if namewinner gets the name, then You can see who was the highest bidder.
