Hi Group,


Interesting observation.

I put the top 500 domain name sales on my site at: www.abodedomains.com/top-domain-sales/ (original source: domaining.com) and thought it an interesting exercise to group by sales and see who was the biggest seller of premium doman names.


Here's the result.


Private sale = $180,887,932
Sedo = $53,089,257
Moniker/Snapnames = $49,612,807
Afternic = $6,134,656
Ricklatona.com = $3,546,920
Drt auction = $2,275,000
Nokta Domains = $860,000
MediaOptions = $715,000
Digipawn = $700,000
Namedrive = $646,400
Marchex = $590,000
Traffic = $520,000
Greatdomains = $425,000
GoDaddy Auctions = $350,000
Aftermarket = $300,000
HuntingMoon = $270,000
Mediaoptions = $235,000
WebsiteProperties = $230,000
Castello Brothers = $225,000
Network solutions = $210,000

* I grouped Moniker and SnapNames together.


Note: Private sales beat all other brokered sales put together. So if you had a top 500 domain name you historically had a better than 50% chance of selling it privately. Note: I understand that top premium domain names would be a easier to market via the media as they would be quite newsworthy. Also, I am guessing the seller knew they had BIG ticket item domain, hence they could afford to spend a lot on marketing.


Conclusion: Hedge your bets. Study brokering techniques as taught by Adam and list with Sedo, Afternic and Moniker/Snapnames as a part of your marketing plan.
