I just noticed some of my sites are giving m a 403 (Forbidden) error no matter what page I try to access. I checked the .htaccess and for the sites that have it they look good - I even restored a backup and it is still not working.

Some sites do not have .htaccess but I still get the 403 with those, too.

So far they are all in the same cpanel account but it's not all sites in that account, so far just 3 out of 6 or 7. I did just get this email a little while ago:

imap failed @ Wed Mar 21 20:43:01 2012. A restart was attempted automagically.

Service Check Method: [check command]

Number of Restart Attempts: 1

Cmd Service Check Raw Output: dovecot is not running

So I restarted dovecot (Restart Services - IMAP) but I still can't get to the sites.

Suggestions?

1, Can you make a copy of the current htaccess, and then delete the online version?

2, are these wp installations?

Some of the sites don't even have an .htaccess file.

Some are WP, some are Joomla.

Edit: it is the .htaccess - I'll have to figure this out. I had a recent long term and large scale hack attack and I blocked the IP address, maybe I did something there.

Edit: Yep, it was the .htaccess - it had an extra order allow, deny in there and I took it out and now that, and the other sites (since this one was the primary) are working.

The problem can be related to Permission or ownership. Try to contact your hosting provider they can get it resolved for you ..checking the errorlogs.
