Estibot appaises it for $21,000
http://estibot.com/results.php?domain=48portswitch.com
I know Estibot doesn't give correct sale prices for a name. Its relative values are often good,
when it checks factors that can be analyzed automatically. For intuitive valuations estibot
will be lost of course, but this name doesn't have any weird magic or insider knowledge that
makes it more or less desirable. There is no 'twist', gotcha or folklore estibot is missing.
Estibot is reaching a higher-than-normal appraisal based on traffic, keyword popularity,
actual searches, # of ads, and competition in ad space. It's also looking at the high
CPC max bid of $4.00 per click and search engine results, Overture results, etc...
So I asked myself, why is this such a popular item, and why so much competition?
Turns out, 48-port network switches are in high demand for ISPs and server farms.
Several top commercial and home network gear vendor have competitive 48-port swiitch
products(Cisco, Netgear, D-Link, etc...). A 48-port switch is rack-mount equipment
for computer rooms.
The exact phrase "48 port switch" is a popular search term -- thousands of *exact*
searches for the term per month. The name has a lot going for it, at least for now,
while 48-switches are still in demand.
And other appraisal sites do you recommend?
"DomainTops" is way off base! (and I can prove it):
DomainTops.com shows Google with 94,000 results for "48 port switch",
which is correct. But DomainTops also says Live.com and Yahoo.com have 0 results,
which couldn't be further from the truth. I tried them myself. Live.com produced
126,000 hits and yahoo.com came up with 90,000+ hits, so DomainTops
is just broken!
The other automated appraisals I tried look really bad to, esp. compared to estibot.
For example, one didn't measure traffic, etc... it asked a lot of questions about factors
that are somewhat archaic by todays domain evaluation standards, yet didn't ask
questions about relevant marketing factors! And the stats cannot be overlooked.
Anyway, I know why estibot gives it a high ranking and value -- because the statistics
warrant it, compared to many other keyword domains. Estibot isn't pulling a number
out of its pants, it is crunching very real data, which can easily be verified at their
sources.
Whether EstBot's $21,000 is the right number for immediate sale, I don't know.
Probably too high. But if actual "sell it now" price was $5000 - $7500 I'd be happy;
who wouldn't for an $8 reg. Even $1500 would be a great win.
I just want to know if I'm missing anything important and the best way to monetize
or cash in on this is. Should I make a site and do SEO for click traffic? Should I try to
market to end users (flip), or should I find a broker? I'm just looking for some
specific idea from seasoned experts here to help put my assessment into perspective
because I've been studying but I'm still a bit new and this is the most 'relevant'
domain name I've registered yet.
