5. Big companies still don’t understand the value of a good domain name. When they figure it out, they’ll pay top dollar for good generic domains.

Dallas Cowboys comes to mind.

Due diligence is waived at 10 bucks a name...........
At 100k per name, due diligence is given to the Executive Assistant to research.
At 1m per name, there is a committee and 20 experts to consult.

Somewhere between the Executive Assistant and the 20 experts is a sweet spot.............. Bat often, swing hard and start running - there is no end to the boom in sight during our lifetime.

This is surprisingly true even at this stage of the game, the Dallas fiasco being case in point. The fact a lawyer thought a domain of that caliber was available at auction for $275 speaks volumes.

Yeah, and they probably thought their registration fee of $499 would be applied to the domain purchase, and they'd get a refund of the difference - $224.

Love this quote. I was thinking this very thing yesterday. I would, however, add some complexity: Once we get into seven-figure deals the dynamics of domain worth analysis is strongly correlated with the level of corporate ignorance - which ties directly back to the industry in which the buyer operates.
