757.com for $29k and 847.com for 7k!???

The latest sales report at DNJournal shows that 757.com sold for $29,410 with Moniker and that 847.com fetched $7,101 at Snapnames. Did I hear that right, just $7k for an NNN.com at Snap? There's got to be more to the story than that!

So now, as they say, the rest of the story...

Turns out that bidding for 847.com went up to $18,950. But the winning bidder didn't pay. The next highest bid was $18,700, so obviously this user was willing to pay that amount for the name. But because they were in a bidding war with the fake bidder, they got it for their highest bid after disqualifying the fake bidder. So, in essence, the bidding war between the two probably scared off several of the other, earlier bidders, and then the winner gets the name for $11.5K LESS than then were willing to pay. :-O

I think 847.com at $7k is a bit on the low side of what that domain should fetch. I have a NNN.com in auction right now at Sedo and I'm hoping to get at least that amount.

The repeating 7 no doubt helped 757.com, but I don't think $19k would have been unreasonable for 847.com, especially at auction. You still see a few reseller sales in the $7k to $10k range of NNN.com names, but prices continue to rise and I know of a few recent private sales in the low to mid $xx,xxx, with at least one of those being a reseller sale.

I actually think 7K is about a fair price..maybe 8-9K, but thats not a big difference, I think 757 is great because its also an airliner..easy to remember..def worth 20+k...who remembers the other number..what was it again? exactly..

fake bid from snapnames itself? how to prove?

I think a few people have been speculating about Snapnames and fake bids. It's possible, but in this case I don't think so.

Consider that the bidding just went back and forth between the real bidder and the person who didn't pay. But the final sale price goes back to the lowest bid from the real bidder just above all the others, so if that non-payer was really just a snapnames shill they didn't archive *anything*. In fact, it's possible the non-paying bidder scared off other bidders who might have paid more than the eventual winner got it for.

757 is also a very popular Boeing Aircraft and an newer area code for a HUGE market in Virginia including Norfolk and a massive military presence, popular tourist attraction of Colonial Williamsburgh and Busch Gardens and other popular hot spots, and Virginia Beach.

So, it is not surprising it went for 29K. It's surprising it did not go much higher, to be quite honest.
