Appraisal. The IDN sales forum is somewhere else now I think.

I have gambling, cards and casino in some other languages, but no, not partypoker in Chinese.

Well, essentially you're going to get a fortune for it. From Hong Kong probably.

fortune..well time will tell that ...atleast let me get hold of the guy who has it first...cant seem to be able to trace him ...

If in fact it is translated correct IMO you should price it @ high $##,###

I meant the original poster's 888.com IDN.

I am an ABC, but I learned my chinese and I know that whatever those characters are, they do NOT stand for 888.

This is 888.com - 八八八.com

That words represent the word 'eight' in chinese. It is commonly used when writting a cheque to prevent fraud.

It not exactly wrong, but it is a bit obscure.

We own the 八八八.com which is much more current, but you should remember that the Chinese are very proficient with Arabic Numerals of the form used in the West.

Really I don't think this is worth all that much. Try the following experiment. Search for "捌捌捌" at Google.cn, limited to Chinese pages:

http://www.google.cn/search?hl=zh-CN&q=捌捌捌&btnG=Google+搜索&meta=lr=lang_zh-CN|lang_zh-TW

You get about 10k results. That's not much. Try the same search, looking only in Chinese pages, for "888"

http://www.google.cn/search?hl=zh-CN&q=888&btnG=搜索&meta=lr=lang_zh-CN|lang_zh-TW

You get a stunning 14.5 Million results.

So which do you think is more common to use?

888 is big in asia.. Good luck.

888 is a lucky number. All chinese like the number 8.

捌-->just ofthen used in the bank.......
八-->is more common use

and I don't think 捌捌捌.com=888.com
it is ok for 捌=8.....but not for the domain.......

I know which one is in more current use, all the google stats and so on.

I'm interested in hearing more opinions on these complex-form-numbers from native speakers, and especially on the domain in question.

I appreciate the comments. As we know, 888 is the best, most expensive, and sought after. Space is tight, you can only write 888 so many ways. In this case, three. 888, 八八八, 捌捌捌.

With 八, we are now into the 9 digit space in .com, that just shows how sought after Chinese number domains are.

八.com, 八八.com, 八八八.com, 八八八八.com, 八八八八八.com, 八八八八八八.com 八八八八八八八.com 八八八八八八八八.com, all taken by different people.

I think 888 is referred to 發發發 or 发发发 better than 八八八 or 捌捌捌.
